What the cleaning does

On request we clean your record in our Klaudio ultrasonic machine before it ships and check it by eye. In my experience this pays off with new records too: pressing can leave residues, and a clean groove is kinder to your cartridge.

This means opening the shrink wrap – your record arrives cleaned in your parcel. From €5 per record, depending on the album.

I am aware and agree, that the Record will be put out of the original shrink wrap (this will be included to the delivery).

There are two ways to protect this gatefold jacket:

For the two records: two inner sleeves. Outer sleeves protect the jacket; each inner sleeve protects one record. You can keep using suitable inner sleeves you already have.

What remains between two notes

Nobody needs to fill the room here. A string is struck, a note slides away, and then it is allowed to fade. For Paris, Texas, Ry Cooder finds a language that tells us so much precisely because it explains so little.

Wim Wenders’ 1984 film is about distance: between places, but also between people. Cooder needs no large orchestra to express it. His slide guitar can suggest a voice still searching for words. Even without the pictures, a landscape of intimacy, unease and silence takes shape.

When landscape becomes memory

The title piece establishes that world with just a few gestures. Later, “Canción Mixteca”, sung by Harry Dean Stanton, gives it a human voice. The shift matters: feelings previously suggested by the guitar emerge as a song.

“I Knew These People” asks for a different kind of attention. Stanton’s spoken account is as much part of the album as Cooder’s instrument. If you expect an uninterrupted sequence of short guitar pieces, it is worth knowing that this soundtrack also lets in the film’s language and memories.

A blues starting point, not Western scenery

One crucial connection is Blind Willie Johnson’s “Dark Was the Night, Cold Was the Ground”. Wenders identified the piece as a musical starting point in his work with Cooder. The apparently empty landscape consequently has a human history behind it: the guitar draws on the expressive world of the blues, not simply an image of dusty roads and open skies. Even without the film, the music is more than a succession of attractive landscape sketches.

The 1984 film brings together Wenders’ direction, Sam Shepard’s screenplay and Robby Müller’s cinematography, with Harry Dean Stanton and Nastassja Kinski on screen. Its music is not exclusively a solitary Cooder performance either. The film credits list David Lindley and Jim Dickinson alongside him as performing musicians. Restraint should not be confused with a shortage of participants or ideas. What we hear is a considered selection.

The record places short instrumental scenes beside the longer “I Knew These People” and the closing “Dark Was the Night”. The movement between music and spoken recollection is part of this soundtrack’s shape. Knowing the film adds narrative associations; hearing the album independently lets voice and guitar offer different forms of intimacy. That slightly unusual balance is central to its character, rather than an interruption to an otherwise conventional instrumental album.
