Analogue Productions

Analogue Productions is one of the defining names in audiophile reissues. Its story begins with Acoustic Sounds, founded by Chad Kassem in 1986 and celebrating its 40th anniversary in 2026. The Analogue Productions label followed in the early 1990s, when new vinyl was being abandoned by much of the music business. More than three decades later, its catalogue extends across hundreds of releases and is followed by collectors around the world.

That standing was earned through a remarkably complete production culture. Analogue Productions commissions new mastering from carefully selected sources, works with engineers known for analogue cutting and manufactures its records through Quality Record Pressings, the Salina, Kansas plant established in 2011. Mastering, lacquer, plating, test pressing and final manufacture can therefore be assessed as connected stages rather than unrelated purchases from anonymous suppliers.

An analogue chain with a clear purpose

For its all-analogue vinyl projects, the chosen tape source feeds an analogue mastering path all the way to the cutting lathe. There is no digital conversion between tape playback and lacquer. This is one of the most uncompromising production routes available for a modern reissue, and it is paired with 180-gram pressings, carefully specified speeds and substantial jackets. When an album was recorded digitally, requires a different source, or appears on SACD, the format information describes the appropriate route rather than hiding it behind a vague audiophile label.

The individual series give that philosophy different forms. UHQR is the flagship presentation, combining specialised vinyl manufacture with an elaborate boxed edition. Atlantic 75 spreads major rock, soul and jazz albums across 45 RPM LPs and also offers SACD versions. The Prestige projects return to essential mono and stereo jazz sessions; the Pablo Series brings later recordings by major jazz artists back into focus. Collaborative programmes in the wider Acoustic Sounds family add Verve, Impulse!, Contemporary and other catalogues.

A catalogue with extraordinary musical range

Phil Collins’ Face Value, Charles Mingus’ Blues & Roots, Genesis’ Nursery Cryme and Gerry Mulligan’s Night Lights make the point immediately. Analogue Productions is not tied to one genre or decade. It applies the same seriousness to progressive rock, electric blues, singer-songwriters, classical recordings and some of the central albums in jazz. The attraction is the combination of musical judgement and production control: important records are treated as complete works, not simply as catalogue numbers to be repressed.

Michael 45 offers this extensive label selection from Germany and dispatches from Hilden. German and EU collectors can order without arranging an individual shipment from the United States or waiting for customs processing. That makes one of America’s most closely followed audiophile catalogues directly accessible from within the EU.

Frequently asked questions

Is Analogue Productions itself 40 years old in 2026?
The 40th anniversary belongs to parent company Acoustic Sounds, founded in 1986. Analogue Productions began as its reissue label in the early 1990s.

Are all Analogue Productions records all-analogue?
All-analogue mastering is central to the label’s vinyl work when the source allows it. The precise source and chain are stated for each title; SACD editions use a high-resolution digital format by design.

Why does Quality Record Pressings matter?
QRP gives the label its own specialist manufacturing infrastructure, bringing plating, pressing and quality decisions into the same production network.

Why are many albums spread across two 45 RPM records?
A 45 RPM cut gives the mastering engineer more groove space and greater cutting freedom. The extra sides turn listening into a more deliberate, album-focused session.

How do UHQR and the regular editions differ?
UHQR adds a specialised pressing format and presentation package. Regular Analogue Productions LPs retain the label’s core attention to source, mastering and manufacture in a more conventional jacket format.
