What the cleaning does

On request we clean your record in our Klaudio ultrasonic machine before it ships and check it by eye. In my experience this pays off with new records too: pressing can leave residues, and a clean groove is kinder to your cartridge.

This means opening the shrink wrap – your record arrives cleaned in your parcel. From €5 per record, depending on the album.

I am aware and agree, that the Record will be put out of the original shrink wrap (this will be included to the delivery).

For the two records: two inner sleeves. Outer sleeves protect the jacket; each inner sleeve protects one record. You can keep using suitable inner sleeves you already have.

Three musicians, a language of their own

Guitar, organ, drums: the subtitle names the instruments, but only begins to explain the attraction. An organ trio distributes musical space differently from a group with piano and double bass. Sustained notes can interlock with short guitar phrases; the drums can connect them or introduce an edge. For Wes Montgomery, this setting is not a reduced substitute for a larger band. It gives his storytelling a particular freedom.

This 1959 recording takes us into his early Riverside period, with Mel Rhyne on organ and Paul Parker on drums. The compact lineup makes every response count. Listen to the relationship between the three voices and a different story emerges from the one you hear when waiting only for the next guitar solo.

A studio beginning with an established language

Montgomery’s Riverside arrival in 1959 was not the discovery of an inexperienced player. After his time with Lionel Hampton he had returned to Indianapolis, working as a welder by day and playing clubs at night. Later fame can obscure how much of his musical language developed outside the major recording market.

Orrin Keepnews heard the very trio subsequently recorded: Melvin Rhyne on organ and Paul Parker on drums. The label’s account places the session roughly two weeks after that encounter. This was an existing musical relationship, not a backing group assembled for the occasion. The record begins from a different position than a debut in which producer and soloist must first find compatible partners.

The subtitle Guitar/Organ/Drums deserves to be taken literally. There is no separate bass player in the lineup, so the distribution of weight differs from a conventional piano trio or a guitar session with double bass. Montgomery’s single-note lines, octaves and chord playing meet an ensemble whose voices can perform several functions. The apparently simple word “trio” conceals a rather specific arrangement of responsibilities.

The art of leaving room

You can hear this record as an early chapter in a major guitar career. It is also rewarding to set that later history aside for a while. Not every passage needs to predict a future landmark. Listening to three musicians distribute sound, time and attention is already enough. A compact group leaves possibilities open that a heavily arranged production might decide in advance. That room for interaction is at the heart of the album’s intimacy.
