Déjà Vu brings four established writers into a group whose unity depends on preserving their differences. David Crosby, Stephen Stills and Graham Nash expand their vocal architecture with Neil Young, while the rhythm section gives acoustic reflection and electric force a common foundation. The album feels communal without pretending that every song comes from the same temperament.
Crosby’s title track unfolds in irregular phrases, layered voices and an arrangement that seems to discover its route while moving. “4 + 20” reduces the scale to Stills and acoustic guitar, making solitude the subject and the method at once. Young’s “Country Girl” joins several sections into a continuous emotional landscape; piano, guitar and voices shift the horizon without breaking the song’s melancholy spell. “Everybody I Love You” closes the record by bringing Stills and Young into a compact electric surge, a burst of group energy after the more private rooms that precede it. Elsewhere, “Carry On” turns vocal counterpoint into momentum, “Helpless” finds strength through plain repetition, and “Almost Cut My Hair” lets Crosby’s unease build inside a live-band performance. The famous harmony matters, but so does friction. These musicians do not dissolve into a smooth collective personality; they make contrast itself productive.
This edition presents Déjà Vu on two LPs at 45 RPM. Its four-side configuration gives the ten-song sequence a substantial physical form and keeps the album’s shifts between intimate acoustic writing, layered harmony and electric interplay intact. For collectors, it is a central meeting point in the work of Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young rather than merely a container for familiar songs. Michael 45 holds the records in Germany and sends them from Hilden, allowing customers to avoid arranging a personal US import and waiting for customs processing.
