Four albums, one mastering engineer
Chris Bellman cut all four editions at Bernie Grundman Mastering, each from the original analogue master tapes. They were pressed at Quality Record Pressings, and all four come in tip-on gatefold jackets by Stoughton Printing. If you collect The Who, these four form a matching set – from the debut and the rock opera to the stage.
My Generation: mono at full force
The 1965 debut in mono, spread across two LPs at 45 RPM. Michael compared this edition with a German first pressing and a German reissue from 1981.
“… ‘Oh, it’s like lifting up a curtain.’ No. It’s like lifting up a huge thick curtain. Really.”Michael 45 on the 45 RPM edition of My Generation · read the listening comparison
Live at Leeds: the stage in your room
Recorded on 14 February 1970 at the University of Leeds. Analogue Productions presents the six tracks of the original LP on two LPs at 45 RPM; the long My Generation gets a side of its own. The inserts of the original come in a separate envelope.
“The difference is closer than with My Generation and the German first. But there is still a big difference when it comes to the sound stage, the depth.”Michael 45 on Live at Leeds compared with the British and German first pressings · read the listening comparison
